Medicare

Significantly cut the costs of five appointments with a Medicare referral from your GP!
Medicare is Australia’s universal healthcare system which provides Australian citizens and some overseas visitors with free or subsidised health services. At Ikaika: Integrated Recovery & Performance, physiotherapy services are subsidised with a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan from your general practitioner (GP).
How does this work?
To access this funding for physiotherapy, you must first see your GP to have your condition recognised as chronic and complex (a condition that you have been dealing with for 6 months or more) which warrants physiotherapy. Your GP can then set up team care arrangements with a letter to us along with a CDM Plan which can allow for up to five subsidised physiotherapy sessions per calendar year.
What do I need to bring to my first consultation?
- CDM Plan and Letter from GP to be signed by us
- Medicare Card
- Loose-fitting clothing so we can properly assess and treat the area of your condition
How do I use my Medicare funding for physiotherapy?
We will take care of this for you! HOWEVER, there is a $69.70 out of pocket gap fee that is charged for each of the sessions covered by Medicare. We will bulk bill Medicare directly to cover the rest of the session’s cost. This cuts your session cost almost in half!
After your sessions allotted by the CDM plan are used up, following sessions will be charged at a cost $120 for 45 minutes.
What happens after the five sessions?
Unfortunately, you will have to pay out of pocket or use private health to cover a portion of the cost. To be completely transparent, if you are suffering from a truly chronic and complex condition, it will take more than five sessions to resolve your issue. For those with private health, we can take a portion of the cost off at time of payment depending on your health fund. If that does not work for your health fund, you will pay the full amount up front, an invoice will be automatically emailed to you and you will be able to submit that invoice to your health fund to recoup some of the cost.
